Worlds Shake
It was around 3 o’clock in the morning. I got out of bed and half asleep stumbled into the bathroom. Much to my horror I felt myself wobbling like a bowl of “wriggly jello”. Fully awake by now I realized this was an earthquake. I wasn’t sure if I should stay sitting on the throne or run for cover. I prayed, this would end quickly and that Trevor and the kids would be safe. It quickly ended and I’m pleased to report that it was the only major earthquake experience while we were in New Zealand. For those who are interested, apparently the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences records more than 10,000 earthquakes in and around N.Z. each year. Most are so small that they can’t be felt. In Edmonton when our house creaked it was due to temperature changes. In Palmerston North, we were told that when our house creaked it was due to earthquakes. Our house
creaked quite a lot.
I quite often get woken up around 3 a.m. Another time though it was with a different sense of urgency. My heart was racing. I calmed down as I realized that the rest of the household slept in peace. I began to pray. At first I didn’t know what to pray so I asked the Holy Spirit to show me. My father-in-law, Howard immediately came to mind. So I prayed for him. The sense of urgency would not go away. So I continued to pray in the spirit and with scripture that would come to mind. I don’t know how long I prayed but eventually my spirit settled and I felt exhausted. I fell asleep to wake up to the chirping of birds, which often were my alarm clock. Later on that day we received news from Edmonton that Howard was feeling a lot better after being quite ill for sometime.
Not only do we contend with the obstacles within our physical world, but there is also an unseen realm, which can cause earthquakes within us. Thank goodness though that he weapons we fight with in this realm are not the weapons of this world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10).
Contrary to what you may believe, there is an unseen kingdom. The kingdom of darkness is constantly trying to overcome the kingdom of light. But light never loses to darkness, although sometimes it may seem that way. I’m sure it seemed that way at the cross, but it was by the shedding of Christ’s blood that the war was ultimately won. Often we feel as though we are loosing battles, but take heart in the fact that the WAR HAS BEEN WON and that God consistently triumphs in defeat!

How so true! We sure need to be reminded that there always is need of prayer and how powerful that prayer can be when God is in it! He moves and shows us things that we think are impossible. Praise God for His Word and faithfulness!

Thank you!
Palmerston North. I had friends move there about a decade ago now. They’re back in Australia now though.
Know that urgency. Both humbling and terrifying that He chooses to work through us to effect change and reconcile hearts …. !
Thanks Sandra. Great to connect again. We were back and forth on Twitter for a while. How are things for you? I’d love to stay in touch.
