Why I Pray Hiding Prayers

Hiding Prayers

Do you know that most pastors will say that Monday is there worst day of the week? Do you want to know why?

Because what they should be doing Sunday is what Paul wrote to the Corinthians:

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (New Living Translation)

It’s spiritual warfare that should be taking place in our pulpits. When it does, there can be backlash.

You’ll find the same thing when you’re praying for people. You can see incredible miracles take place and in the next few days it might seem like everything that should be in the pit is out to get you.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t need to pay for the kingdom work done in the way the enemy wants us to think we do. Jesus paid the price on the cross, we don’t need to allow the enemy the chance to exact payment from us.

Here’s what we do. We’ve learned to pray what’s been prayed in the Psalms:

Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.
By your mighty power you rescue
those who seek refuge from their enemies.
Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
Protect me from wicked people who attack me,
from murderous enemies who surround me.
Psalm 17:7-9 (New Living Translation)

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!
I look to you for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings
until the danger passes by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
disgracing those who hound me.
Psalm 57:1-3 (New Living Translation)

Because you are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
your strong right hand holds me securely.
But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin.
They will go down into the depths of the earth.
Psalm 63:7-9 (New Living Translation)

These are called “Hiding Prayers” and since the psalmist prayed them, we can pray them as well. Do not accept anything that you release from others to visit itself on you. Whenever you’re done ministering simply pray when you’re alone:

Lord, thank you for what you accomplished. Finish the good work that you’ve started. Hide me in the shelter of your wings. Keep me safe from all who want to do me harm.

It’s not a magic formula, but it’s so effective that it might seem as if it is.

Let’s take a quick look at Psalm 91 to see why Hiding Prayers are not by any means magic:

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.

9 If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”
Psalm 91 (New Living Translation)

If you can believe John 3:16 is for you, it should be easy enough to see Psalm 91 has the Father’s heart for you as well. It’s not an incantation you need, but an understanding that all God’s promises are “yes” and “amen” in Christ Jesus.

Also notice in Psalm 91 that there is a condition on our part. We aren’t manipulating the Father here. When we follow hard after Him, when we do – by the power of the Holy Spirit – what Jesus Christ did in the flesh, we do not need to put up with demonic backlash that too many of us have become accustomed to.

Will we ever be spiritually attacked?

Yes, the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy – that’s his plans for you. What hiding prayers protect us from is demonic backlash when we are doing as we see the Father’s heart.
